The Great Re-Levelling
19/09/2025
The Great Re-Levelling has arrived at 7oP. Sounding like a mythical Viking doomsday scenario, it is rather a shake-up of how we and, eventually, the padel community, assign levels to our players. Instead of using the traditional 1-7 scale, we will now be using PadelLevels’ dynamic algorithm to establish a player’s level.
Padel Levels are between 0 for a brand new player and 100,000 for the best in the world. Realistically most of Sevenoaks players will be 250 - 4000.
In essence, PadelLevels employs a sophisticated mathematical algorithm that aims to provide an objective level for all padel players. To do so, it pulls data from multiple sources (such as tournaments, internal box leagues, even friendly matches) to generate a more accurate playing level for padel players. Hence, instead of a player being a 3.5 at Sevenoaks Padel Club and a 4.2 at Bromley Sports, players will have a singular rating that can be used at all padel venues. PadelLevels’ scale is also more intuitive as it is linear, meaning a player rated at 1,000 is twice as good as a player rated as 500.
As a result, the Sevenoaks Padel App will be configured to reflect the move towards PadelLevels. Coaching, organising matches and socials will all be done according to PadelLevel ratings.
To get the ball rolling, we have taken all the match scores registered on our Sevenoaks Padel Club app and exported them into PadelLevels in order to generate levels for as many customers as possible. If you are not already on PadelLevels, we have converted your former app level into a rough PadelLevel using their conversion scale. Should you want to improve on this level, you can sign up for PadelLevels on their website.
If you are not interested in playing competitively and/or just want to play friendlies, that is more than fine. You will have a general level given to you on the app, and you will still be able to untick “applies to ranking” on any open matches you organise, meaning you can play friendlies.
If your level is set to 500 it is likely the system does not have enough data yet. Once you have played enough games this will update. The more data the more accurate your level.
As we implement this change, some adjustments will inevitably be necessary. However, as we make our way through this voyage of discovery, we hope the long-term vision of PadelLevels of having a universal and accurate playing level for all padel players will make your playing journey with us even more fun and exciting.
